Tom Newstead

I was born the first son of a coal miner from a fishing village called Seaton Sluice, Northumberland and left school at the age of fifteen to become an apprentice boat builder at Lambies, Northumberland. where, I  worked with a tradesman who taught me his craft and who to this day I would describe as ‘truly remarkable’.

After concluding my apprenticeship, I joined the merchant navy as an assistant carpenter. This enabled me to travel the world, over 11 years with the Navy. This was an invaluable experience for me, in the exposition of my craft.

Each new continent, land and city brought with it a new perspective within which I saw different art forms which I could later work with and manipulate into a style that I now uniquely stamp as my own.

I have now returned to Seaton Sluice. and whilst being taught to play the violin but couldn't pay for the lessons I made my teacher a violin and case from silver birch, which re ignited my love of art.

The essence of my life captured in the beauty of sculptures, which I think and hope you agree, are truly unique.

I have many pieces of artwork for sale,  I also undertake private commissions, please use the contact page to get in touch for details.
